Frost Water

One of the wonderful compensations for cold nights in the spring time is the frost water. I know, it sounds exciting, and you can hardly wait… or not. On really cold nights Farmer Bill turns the water on to help protect the buds, and in part of the apple orchard it is overhead water, which means that the sprinklers are above the trees and the water falls on top of them. So really, I must admit that it is just water. But what happens to that water is so spectacular that I go out shivering in the sunrise cold to dodge sprinklers and take pictures of this

Everything that was hit by the water – each leaf, branch, blossom, and individual grass blade -is coated in a gorgeous  ice layer that shines like glass when the sun hits it.

I especially love it when the apple blossoms are starting to show pink, they are so beautiful with their crystal coating…

Even the weeds and the dying daffodils are given a temporary beauty treatment!

And the sunshine through the trees is such and amazing sight…

It makes it worth the bleary eyes (I am NOT a morning person!) and wet feet and cold wet hair when you don’t make it around that sprinkler, because you were too busy looking through the camera lens to pay attention! After a warm shower I love sitting down and looking at the pictures I got and seeing if there are any good ones to share with you!
